How I Can Help You I am a solicitor, qualified for over 30 years, who specialises in personally providing employees with independent legal advice about Settlement Agreements, also known as Compromise Agreements. Before you sign one it is vital that you fully understand the content and consequences. One important effect is that you would be giving up rights to bring employment related claims against your employer. You need to understand what this means before you decide whether the Settlement Agreement is a good one for you. When you are offered a Settlement Agreement it will usually have been drafted to protect your employer's interests rather than yours. I can negotiate on your behalf to even up the balance. This may take the form of negotiating the compensation package, the wording of the agreement, or the inclusion of a reference. |
What You Can Expect From Me To the point, prompt advice in plain English. The Cost The employer usually agrees to pay my costs and, if so, wording will be included in the Settlement Agreement about this. In that case, and if you are satisfied with what is in the Settlement Agreement and sign the Settlement Agreement, you will pay me nothing at all. If you are not satisfied and wish me to negotiate the compensation being offered, in my experience employers will not generally meet my costs of doing that. Therefore, unless we agree otherwise, you would be responsible for my fees for that additional work charged at my Standard Charge Out Rate. The costs paid by your employer will usually cover my negotiating the wording of the Settlement Agreement. However, if the Settlement Agreement needs substantially rewriting I will try to negotiate a higher figure for my costs from your employer. If the employer does not agree to this, I will only make a charge to you if I have discussed and agreed that with you in advance in writing. Contact Generally it will not be necessary for us to meet, as I can instead advise you by telephone and e-mail. However, I am of course happy to meet if you would prefer. Generally, meetings take place at the Cambourne office address below. If circumstances require, it may be possible to arrange to meet at office facilities available for use in: |
